Tips for Long Term Satisfaction

The best gravel base on a new road is 2” crush.
For a dust-free lane use 3/4” crushed spec asphalt on top of your base layer. This is old asphalt that’s been crushed. It reduces dust and mud, and is a cost effective approach.

Quality

All materials meet Alberta provincial specifications.

We're a small company that delivers high quality aggregate, coupled with in-house quality control. Athabasca River-sourced round rock for premium gravel and twice-screened black dirt.

We make big rocks into little rocks.

About Me

MY NAME IS Eric

I started Kalboom Developments in 2009 and incorporated in 2010. It was named Kalboom Developments because of my nickname from skiing - sometimes I would go really big, kaboom!

My family's been part of the gravel industry for 45 years. My grandfather, Lawrence Kallbom, started a gravel pit over 50 years ago, and was the first person in Whitecourt to have an aggregate business. It was passed on to my father and my brother.

At 18, I was invited to the World Skiing Invitational. I drove out in my Ford Tempo with 4 sets of skis, lived in my car for a month and a half, and competed in the World's. I won 6th place in Halfpipe, 3rd place in the One-Hitter Halfpipe contest, and won Best Wipeout of the weekend. I went on to ski professionally for 10 years, live my dream, and meet lots of cool people.

While skiing professionally, I purchased my own gravel pit. Working two jobs while getting it started, I lived modestly in my camper at the time. I was willing to do whatever it took to make the business work, just like I did with skiing.

I've slowly built up the sand and gravel business each year.
